RTD Temperature Sensors
Details
Platinum RTDs are the most widely used temperature sensors in precision thermometry.
The fundamental advantages that an RTD has over Thermocouples are: Stability, Precision, and Repeatability.
The disadvantages are price, slower response time, a current source is required, and potential self-heating error.
The excitation current is normally limited to less than 1 mA or so to minimize the self-heating effect.
